One section was "the farm in the zoo" with chickens, goats, cows, horses etc. it was *amazing* how many children had never seen a cow, didn't know what a goat was, or didn't know that chickens hatch from eggs. And these weren't just poor intercity kids... Also during the Chicago years, I was working at a gourmet store as the produce manager. Alice Waters came in to do a book signing one day and commented that my produce display was more beautiful then a Barney's window - I'm always going to think fondly of her :-) When I lived in Chicago I volunteered at the zoo for three years.
