I dislike this post since it contains a huge logical fallacy, just because one group eats MSG with no ill effects Does not mean all those who experience that nasty MSG headache must be hypochondriacs. With this same reasoning we can conclude no one in the world is lactose intolerant you know since most Europeans and Americans eat tons of dairy with out so much as a stomach clench or for that matter there is definitely no such thing as alcohol intolerance.
I'm not saying that you aren't right and hell science mostly agrees with you. I just don't like the comparison of to groups that share as many differences as they do commonalities. A lot of what is eaten today would never have been consumed in ancient times and because of geological differences and differences in food availability large differences in food tolerances and intolerances have occurred across the world.

My heart did sink when I saw Pok Pok's menu and it said "No MSG"...

The irony, of course, is that all of these places have plenty of glutamates in their food in the form of fish sauce, soy sauce, etc. I think one of the most unfotunate foods to disappear is liquamen, or Mediterranean fish sauce. btw, if you do searches for MSG you'll find all these Art Bell wannabes who essentially try to get people to avoid glutamates of all kinds, including things like:

"natural chicken flavoring"
"yeast extract"
"soy protein"
"amino acids"

http://www.holisticmed.com/msg/msg-sources.txt

Of course, MSG has a VERY specific meaning and most of these DO NOT apply. But they call them MSG because of the fear factor involved.
